Rose, but different – ‘Knoppi’ delights with button-like blooms

This unusual bud-flowering rose brings fresh momentum to the assortment

Rosa ‘Knoppi’ deliberately reinterprets the classic image of modern rose breeding. Instead of lush, fully opened flowers, it presents numerous perfectly formed buds over a period of weeks, barely opening and resembling small “buttons” – and it is precisely this that creates its distinctive aesthetic effect. This unusual variety combines lasting decorative impact with a clean, modern look, opening up entirely new possibilities at the point of sale.

The button-like blooms of this so-called “bud-flowering rose” are the defining characteristic of the variety. Because of their closed appearance, they do not fade in the usual way, which results in a significantly extended decorative value both in retail and for the end customer. From June to around August, ‘Knoppi’ shows an even display of buds that remains attractive throughout the season – an advantage that is particularly noticeable in summer sales compared with classic flowering roses.

The variety also proves exceptionally versatile in use: thanks to its compact, structured growth, it is ideal for containers and beds, while also lending itself extremely well to floristry. In particular, the stable bud structure creates a modern, clean look in arrangements, wreaths and bouquets that is still rarely found in this form. Rose lovers can choose from three colours: pink, red and white.

Baumschule Heinje offers the variety in pot size C6 as a high-quality, well-branched shrub that presents excellently both as a stand-alone product and in combination with other summer plants. In terms of colour, ‘Knoppi’ forms an attractive trio: red, pink and white meet a variety of customer preferences and allow for broad placement at the point of sale. With its combination of robust garden performance, winter-hardy vitality and an entirely new flowering concept, ‘Knoppi’ offers retailers an exciting opportunity to expand the rose assortment creatively – because ‘Knoppi’ is a rose, just a little different.
