Inkarho® Rhododendron Easydendron® as a strong addition to the specialist retail assortment
Robust characteristics, a broad colour palette and new insights into its importance for wild bees
Easydendron by Inkarho is one of the most versatile rhododendrons for specialist retailers. It combines impressive floral abundance with exceptionally uncomplicated site requirements and, as a grafted rhododendron hybrid, impresses with uniform, dense growth. Thanks to the special Inkarho rootstock, it thrives in almost any humus-rich garden soil; even in clay soil or peat-free substrates it shows strong growth. With its high tolerance to drought and winter hardiness down to -20 °C, the perennial Easydendron is ideally equipped for the increasing climatic challenges of modern gardens.
From May to June, this evergreen shrub presents itself with abundant, intensely coloured flowers that, depending on the variety, range from vivid pink and violet to rich red. More than 30 varieties are available in total, including proven classics such as ‘Blaue Jungs’, ‘Junifeuer’ and ‘Germania’. Its evergreen, elongated leaves also provide fresh accents outside the flowering period. With a growth height of 120 to 250 centimetres and good pruning tolerance, Easydendron is suitable for hedge planting, as a striking specimen plant or as a robust container plant. It feels most at home in sunny to partially shaded locations, meeting a wide range of design requirements.
Another aspect that is becoming increasingly important for many gardening enthusiasts is its potential benefit for native insects. A study commissioned by the German Rhododendron Society and carried out in 2020 in Rhododendron Park and the Botanical Garden in Bremen provides findings on the importance of certain rhododendron varieties for wild bees: the investigation shows that some rhododendrons – especially evergreen as well as very early- or late-flowering varieties – can indeed be used as a source of nectar and pollen during their flowering period, provided that suitable nesting opportunities, especially for ground-nesting species, are available near the plantings. Among the Inkarho rhododendrons, Easydendron ‘Gomer Waterer’ was highlighted positively, having been accepted as a resource by various wild bee species. For specialist retailers, this provides an additional, well-founded argument for ecologically oriented advice.
Easydendron is offered in a practical 5-litre container and supported by modern packaging as well as a wide range of marketing materials. User-friendly labels including a QR code lead directly to care and planting videos and make orientation at the point of sale easier for end customers. Through regular consumer campaigns and its internationally understandable brand name, this Inkarho breeding is also attractive for gardening beginners. At the same time, Easydendron is an indispensable addition to the specialist retail assortment for discerning buyers who value aesthetics, robustness and uncomplicated care.
